About mem
A little about me
I am an aging software type, now
involved in running an ISP.
Some current projects
- MV Communications -- www.mv.com
- The oldest ISP in NH (and one of the oldest anywhere), incorporated
in 1991 (domain name registered in late 1987).
- The DNSist -- www.dnsist.net
- A sub-project of MV, to provide distributed secondary DNS service for
ISPs. Primary goal is to answer MV's need, but set up to offer the same
to other ISPs on a minimal cost-recovery basis.
- mvmf -- www.mvmf.org
- Intelligent and programmable mail delivery agent, with a scripting
language wholly incorporating the SIEVE filtering language set out
in RFC 3028 (and
subsequent RFCs) inside of a C-like procedural language. Currently
in use at MV, and currently in development of more advanced features
intended to make it more attractive for other environments.
Older Projects
(There's a lot, and I'll get around to listing some, yep.)
A brief history of mem
- 1954: born in New Jersey, of all places;
- thru 1963: lived in Washington State, Massachusetts, New York,
Maine, finally landing in New Hampshire;
- 1966 - 1969: had an interesting time working summers at
Camp Graylag in Pittsfield. This was a basketball camp co-owned and
operated by Bob Cousy. We kitchen boys were treated very well;
- 1969-1976: various odd jobs... clerking; various photography-related
ones including part-time photographer for the
Concord Monitor; discovered
computers, worked for the Office of Academic Computing at
UNH;
- 1977: son Eric born;
- 1981-1995: A checkered career as a software contractor. Got
ham radio and pilots license (both now unused);
- 1981: Wrote a BBS system; started it up on a CP/M system
in Londonderry, NH.
- 1985: Started a UUCP hub on a Microport UNIX system (on a
'286 IBMPC clone) in Litchfield, NH, after having kicked around on
Usenet at
Software Innovations since 1981 or so. Ported the BBS code
to run under a login under the UNIX system;
- 1987: Registered mv.com (even though 'whois' says 1988);
- 1991: Incorporated MV Communications with partners;
- 1995: Became full-time employee at MV.
Claims to Fame
Very few. I am tickled by the fact that my birthday is noted in the
calendar file distributed with many versions of UNIX these days.
I've Been Here in the US
I've lived in these states:
I've been to these states:
(There should be a solid line across the country here, since we drove
across the country a couple of times when I was just a few years old.
But I'm afraid I don't know what the route was.)
