October 2002...

Let There Be Light -- in moderation A good article by Joyce Cohen in USA Today

June 2002...

Two sides of Light An excellent web site created by the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) that uses flash animation to display a well-written, yet simple presentation, and makes available audio recordings (playable on your PC) of various radio articles about light pollution awareness. Definitely worth visiting! (Note: You will need the shockwave-flash pluggin to view this site).

March 2002...

Hopes for bright new street lights go dark . Excerpt--"NEWBURY - Voters passed even the most expensive parts of their $1.8 million budget - money to pay town officials and to make improvements to the town dump - with barely a murmur at last night's town meeting. But they wouldn't budge for new street lights and paved roads."

January 2002...

LIGHTS CAUSE DELAY IN SHAW'S DECISION. Excerpt--"The Manchester Planning Board last night delayed approving the site plan for a proposed Shaw’s supermarket and nearby shopping center on South Willow Street, after questioning how tall parking lot light poles should be at the facility."

LIST OF LIGHTING ORDINANCES AND LIGHT REGULATIONS NOW AVAILABLE!
NHCRL members are currently compiling a list of lighting ordinances and lighting regulations . In the future we hope to get actual copies of the documents. Until then, this list will at least be an index for those attempting to start lighting regulations in their town/city.

November 2001...

MAJOR VICTORY WON !!!!
"After 3 years of many hearings, votes, study committees and resolutions, the State of NH agreed to create a 'Technical Bulletin' [http://www.state.nh.us/osp/library/docs/outdoor_lighting/TB16.pdf] on this subject. The NH Office of State Planning was ordered by the NH Legislature to create a document regarding Light Pollution/Light Trespass." -- see the Winter 2001-2002 Newsletter formore details!

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT NHCRL and this web site:
NHCRL is a grass roots organization. We do not collect dues or hold regular meetings. Our members are passive and active supporters of NHCRL's mission. NHCRL has succeeded several times in reaching NH and surrounding states by personal contact and radio programs. In the future, as more members move from passive to active, we might have more resources and activities posted on this web site. Please visit the site often to check for such enhancements.
