Railroads

I can remember the very day (although not the date) when I decided as an adult that I had to take up model trains. It was in February 1984. I was in Shaw's supermarket in Londonderry (where we lived at the time), and leafing through magazines on the stand. There were a few copies of different issues of train-related magazines. (They might all have been the same magazine, or there might have been some of different magazines -- that much I don't remember.) In particular, there copies of the January issue of Model Railroader magazine. The cover had a very attractive photo of The Hiawatha. It was pulled into a city terminal, with crowds milling around, passengers getting on and off. A few of the passengers looked a bit like models, but the rest of it looked so real.
