つっ走る一輌の４号戦車があった。
tsuppashiru ichi-ryou no 4-gou sensha ga atta.
  May 7th, 1945, on the day of Germany's unconditional surrender, there was a Panzer IV rushing along the Autobahn, in the southern part of Brandenburg province outside of Berlin.

目指すは西、とにかく西へ！！
Mezasu wa nishi, tonikaku nishi e!!
  Its direction was west, at least towards the west anyway!!

妄想と合理主ギのこんがらがったのが、ドイツ民族である。
Mousou to gourishugi no kongaragatta no ga, Doitsu minzoku de aru.
  Those who mix up fantasy and rationalism are the German race.

[Note: Besides "fantasy," mousou can also mean "wild idea" or "delusion."]

その妄想のひとつに、ヨーロッパの守護者というのがある。
Sono mousou no hitotsu ni, Yooroppa no shugo-sha to iu no ga aru.
  One of their fantasies is being the guardian of Europe.

要するに、ユーラシアの奥から おしよせて来る遊牧民の大群から、
Yousuruni, Yuurashia no oku kara oshiyosete kuru yuuboku-min no taigun kara,
ヨーロッパを守っていると思い込んでいるのだ。
Yooroppa o mamotte iru to omoikonde iru no da.
  In other words, they believe that they are protecting Europe from a large swarm of nomadic people surging from the heart of Eurasia.

独ソ戦に 参加したドイツ側の同盟国のマークを 見ると、
Doku-sosen ni sanka shita Doitsu-gawa no doumeikoku no maaku o miru to,
明らかに 十字軍を 意識していたものと 思われる。
akirakani juujigun o ishiki shite ita mono to omowareru.
  When I see the mark of the allies which joined the German-Soviet war on the German side, I can imagine that they were clearly conscious of a crusade.

[Note:  Here, "mark" refers to the eiserne Kreuz (Iron Cross) or Hakenkreuz (swastika).]

なんのことはない 実は 植民地にするためだった。
Nan-no-koto wa nai jitsu-wa shokuminchi ni suru tame datta.
  As a matter of fact, (they fought) in order to establish colonies.

Kattari maketari shita ga konkai wa tokuni hidokatta.
  Sometimes they won, sometimes they lost; but this time was especially bad.
