Carius emerges from the relative safety of the commander's cupola long enough to fire off a signal flare.

Carius's flare reaches its apogee and explodes, illuminating his Tiger tank just as gunner Kramer fires the 88mm cannon.

Kramer's shell detonates on impact, as a prone German soldier in the foreground tallies the score.

[Panel 4]

The young second lieutenant, his eyes hidden by his thick eyeglasses, leaps from his foxhole to lead the charge as a comrade follows.

３発目の着弾と 共に 歩兵が おどり出る。
3-patsume no chakudan to tomoni hohei ga odori deru.
  Soon after the 3rd shot landed, the infantrymen jumped out.

「突撃！！」
"Totsugeki!!"
  "Charge!!"

[Panel 5]

Three German soldiers race towards the fire, the result of Kramer's handiwork.

爆煙のおさまらぬ内に 敵陣へ 全力疾走。
Bakuen no osamaranu uchi ni tekijin e zenryoku shissou.
  Before the gunsmoke disappeared, they sprinted with all their might towards the enemy's position.

すべて打合せどおりに 進行した。
Subete uchiawase doori ni shinkou shita.
  Everything proceeded as previously arranged.

Even with headphones on, Carius does not like what he hears.

A monstrous blast!!  Two German soldiers are dwarfed by the resulting eruption of earth and fire.

A Tiger tank is also surrounded by the all-encompassing firestorm.

A closeup of the commander's cupola, now barely visible through the flying debris.

The young second lieutenant's eyeglasses lie alone upon the battlefield.

[Panel 12]

The machine gun on Carius's tank blazes away as Russian small arms fire strikes the Tiger.  A lone German soldier lies precariously close to the tank treads as Carius advances.

  Carius edged forward.

A Russian machine gunner hidden amongst the farmhouse ruins attempts to stave off the advance of Carius.

どうしても 一挺の機関銃が だまらない。
Doushitemo ichou no kikanjuu ga damaranai.
  One machine gun that's not silenced by any means.

  (sound of the gun)

[Panel 14]

A cross-sectional view of two Russian soldiers dug in beneath the debris of the farmhouse ruin.  A German shell lands harmlessly close by.

ロシア兵が 穴に もぐったら 始末が わるい
Roshia-hei ga ana ni moguttara shimatsu ga warui
  If the Russian soldiers hide in holes, they are hard to deal with.

  Children of the earth

戦車だけで 制圧するのは まず無理だ

  To control them with tanks alone is almost impossible.
