[Panel 1]

As two Russian tanks streak by, one takes a direct hit amidships.  Miyazaki, who already has firmly established himself as a crybaby in this episode, now wimps out completely. ^_^

15-fun kan no junbi-hougeki no ato, sensha to hohei ikko-daitai ga kita.
After 15 minutes of preparatory bombardment, the (Russian) tanks and one regiment of infantrymen came.

Roshia-gun no shougeki-ryoku wa akiraka ni teika shita.
The shock power of the Russian army clearly had declined.

Sensha 3-ryou gekiha
  The Germans defeated 3 tanks.

"Shouryaku!!"
  "Omit it!!"

[Panel 2]

A panoramic view of the battlefield.  Shattered and smoking hulks of destroyed tanks litter the landscape.

[Panel 3]

Carius barely cracks open the turret hatch on his Tiger.  Only his eyes are visible.

Ni-ryou o keikai ni nokoshite, Kariusu wa youyaku hohei rentai no honbu e dekakeru koto ga dekita.
Carius, leaving behind two (Tigers) on watch, finally could go to the infantry's regimental headquarters.

"Ashimawari ga ikaretemasu ne"
"The wheel's been damaged, hasn't it."

"Kyuuberu ga hoshii...."
  "I want a Kübel...."

[Note: A Kübel was a Jeep-like vehicle (made by Volkswagen?) used by German army officers in WWII.]

[Panel 5]

Von Schiller approaches at breakneck speed in his Kübel.  (Where could he be going in such a rush?)

Renraku ni dekkai tora o tsukau no wa ikanimo mucha da.
It's quite unreasonable to use a huge Tiger for making contact.

But von Schiller monopolized the (company's) only Kübel for his personal use.

SFX:

  (laughter)

[Note:  In his book Tigers in the Mud, Carius mentions that von Schiller used the 2nd Company's Kübel to visit his mistress every night.  Von Schiller's staff concealed this fact from Carius until after the end of the war, aware that Carius was being forced to use his tank or to go on foot to communicate with headquarters.]

[Panel 6]

Carius jumps from his Tiger at the entrance to regimental headquarters.

Major Haase, eyes bulging, reacts to the report from Carius.

"Whaaat?  The soldiers ran away?!  It's empty there?!"

"Asa kara zuuto sou desu"
"It's been this way the entire time since this morning."

[Panel 8]

Major Haase issues orders through his field radio as a sweating Carius looks on.

"How many men does your place have?"

"Yoshi      Sugu shuttou shiro"
  "Good.  Present them immediately."

Tied up coping with (the attacks), Haase had the misconception that the "East Sack" was held by a combination of Tigers and infantrymen.

German soldiers, armed to the snout, climb aboard Carius's Tiger as Carius observes from the commander's cupola.
