[Panel 1]

Mud is flying everywhere as Carius cautiously sticks his head out from the relative safety of the commander's cupola.

またも 頭を 出す人
Matamo atama o dasu hito
  One who sticks out his head again  [arrow pointing to Carius's head]

「連隊規模で 集結している」
"Rentai kibo de shuuketsu shite iru"
  "They're gathering on a regimental scale."

SFX:

[Panel 2]

From above, we see Carius slide the turret hatch shut as he retreats into the commander's cupola.

「ウハッ」
"Uha"
  "Ugh..."

[Panel 3]

From below Carius's Tiger tank, we see shells impact nearby.

SFX:

[Panel 4]

German artillery shells impact along the railroad embankment while Miyazaki, in pig form, comments (what a whiner! ^_^).

SFX:
クワッ  グワッ  ズーン  グワッ  ズズーン  カッ   ズーン  ズーン
Kuwa       guwa       zu-n         guwa        zuzu-n         ka           zu-n         zu-n
  (sounds of shooting and explosions)

この日 はじめて、ドイツの砲弾が 土手の向うのロシア側に 落下した
Kono hi hajimete, Doitsu no houdan ga dote no mukou no Roshia gawa ni rakka shita
  For the first time this day, the Germans' shells fell on the Russian side of the embankment.

  210 mm heavy shells (probably 2 companies' 6 guns)

[Panel 5]

Russian soldiers and a lone Russian tank attempt to flee the German artillery barrage.

SFX:
ドバァ
Dobaa
  (sound of a tank exploding)

この砲撃で 集結中のロシア軍は 大きな損害を 出し 攻撃は 一時間 おくれる事に なった
Kono hougeki de shuuketsu-chuu no Roshia-gun wa ookina songai o dashi kougeki wa ichijikan okureru koto ni natta
  Because of this bombardment, the Russian army suffered major losses, and their attack was delayed for an hour.


[Panel 6]

A German Tiger tank accompanied by a supply truck approaches.  Carius is pictured in a small panel to the right.

ようやく ひと息つけた
Youyaku hitoiki tsuketa
  Finally, (Carius) took a breather.

「こちら グルーバー」
"Kochira Guruubaa"
  "This is Gruber."

「おそくなって ゴメン  砲弾を もって来た  指示を 待つ」
"Osoku natte gomen             Houdan o mottekita      Shiji o matsu"
  "Sorry to be late.  I brought shells.  Waiting for your instructions."


[Panel 7]

Carius and his crew hurriedly help offload the ordnance from the supply truck.  A German soldier to the left has to answer nature's call.  For once, the rising cloud of steam is not a result of combat.

SFX:
ズドーン  ズーン  ドロド  ドロドロ
Zudo-n         zu-n          dorodo    dorodoro
  (sounds of shooting in the distance)

大いそぎで 補給品を 受けとった。
Ooisogi de hokyuu-hin o uketotta.
  He received the supplies in a hurry.

こんな時に 気まぐれな一発の砲弾で 戦隊が 全滅することも あるのだ。
Konna toki ni kimagurena ippatsu no houdan de sentai ga zenmetsu suru koto mo aru no da.
  At a time like this, sometimes a squadron is annihilated by a capricious single shell.


[Panel 8]

Carius listens intently to Herr Gruber.

グルーバーから イヤな話を きいた。
Guruubaa kara iyana hanashi o kiita.
  (Carius) heard an unpleasant story from Gruber.

フオン・シラーが、もう一輌の虎に 乗りながら、戦場に 来ようと しないのだ。
Fon Shiraa ga, mou ichi-ryou no tora ni nori-nagara, senjou ni koyou to shinai no da.
  Von Schiller, even though he already got into one of (his) Tigers, didn't try to come to the battlefield.

中隊本部では、彼への怒りで、 騒然と なっているという。
Chuutai-honbu de wa, kare e no ikari de, souzen to natte iru to iu.
  Company headquarters has been thrown into an uproar with anger at him.


[Panel 9]

From his vantage point above the commander's cupola, Carius issues commands to his crew.

カリウスの良いところは、雑音で 意志を ニブらせる事のない点だった。
Kariusu no yoi tokoro wa, zatsuon de ishi o niburaseru koto no nai ten datta.
  The good part of Carius is where he doesn't let his will be weakened by grating (at von Schiller).

とにかく 中隊長は 軍団本部に 連絡して、砲撃を 実現させたのだ。
Tonikaku chuutai-chou wa gundan-honbou ni renraku shite, hougeki o jitsugen saseta no da.
  Anyway, the company commander contacted Corps headquarters, and made the bombardment happen.

ずい分 おそかったと しても
Zuibun osokatta to shite mo
  Even though it was extremely late.

「持場へ もどる」
"Mochiba e modoru"
  "We'll go back to our position."

「穴に 気を つけろ」
"Ana ni ki o tsukero"
  "Be careful of the holes."


[Panel 10]

Three Tiger tanks approach and head off in different directions.

「ケルシャー  左へ 出ろ   グルーバーは そのまま 前へ」
"Kerushaa          Hidari e dero    Guruubaa wa sono mama mae e"
  "Kerscher, go left.  Gruber, go forward."

SFX:
ゴゴゴ
Gogogo
  (sound of tank moving)

瓦礫の山と なった 拠点1に ロシア兵の姿が なかった
Gareki no yama to natta kyoten 1 ni Roshia-hei no sugata ga nakatta
  The Russian soldiers were not at Position 1, which had become a mountain of rubble.

そのかたわらに 三輌は 腰を すえた。
Sono katawara ni san-ryou wa koshi o sueta.
  The three (Tigers) settled down beside it.
