A lone Tiger tank stands watch as Russian bombs impact in the distance. Destroyed railroad tracks nearby stand as evidence of earlier attacks.
その間も 早朝のモグラタタキは つづいていた。
Sono aida mo souchou no mogura tataki wa tsuzuiteita.
During this time, the Russians continued their early-morning bombing attacks.
Carius observes a Russian nighttime bombardment off in the distance as he is perched atop his Tiger tank in the farm compound. A soldier approaches.
夜も 相変わらずだった。
Yoru mo aikawarazu datta.
Even at night, that was as usual.

(sounds of airplanes)

(sounds of distant incoming shells)
「とおいな」
"Tooi na"
"It's far off..."
「めしが 来たよ」
"Meshi ga kita yo"
"The food came!"
German soldiers line up for chow next to a Tiger tank in the farm compound.
「ここんとこやつら妙に しずかですね (ケルシャー)」
"Kokontoko yatsura myou ni shizuka desu ne (Kerushaa)"
"These days they're extremely quiet, aren't they? (Kerscher)"
「めしー」
"Meshii"
"Foood"
「それが 気に なるのよ」
"Sore ga ki ni naru no yo"
"That makes me worry."
ドイツ兵は ３人でも キチンと 並ぶのだ
Doitsu-hei wa 3-nin demo kichin to narabu no da
The German soldiers - even [only] 3 people - line up straight.
Carius looks skyward as the sound of an approaching aircraft breaks the silence.

(sound of an airplane)
An approaching Russian bomber is seen from below.

ウオオオーン

(sound of the airplane)

"Taihi"
"Take cover!"
German soldiers are thrown in all directions as a bomb impacts next to a Tiger tank.
SFX:
クワッ
Kuwa
(shouting)
The Russian bomber climbs into the nighttime sky as it leaves a fiery path of destruction in its wake.
そのロシア機は 自軍の陣地にも バクダンを バラまいていった。
Sono Roshia-ki wa jigun no jinchi nimo bakudan o baramaite itta.
That Russian flight scattered bombs, hitting even his own position.

(sound of the airplane)
「まちがえちゃった」
"Machigaechatta"
"I made a mistake."
The still bodies of two dead German soldiers lay next to the treads of a Tiger tank.
虎は 無事だったが 二名の隊員が 殺された。
Tora wa buji datta ga ni-mei no taiin ga korosareta.
The Tiger was safe, but two members of the unit were killed.
Carius, eyes not yet fully open, emerges from a bunker after being rudely awakened by a soldier.
その夜は 悪い事だらけだった。
Sono yoru wa warui koto darake datta.
That night was full of bad things.
「火事です」
"Kaji desu"
"There's a fire!"

ズーン ズズーン
Zu-n zuzu-n
(sounds of incoming shells)
Carius and his men hurriedly climb into their tank as raging fires consume the nearby farmhouses.
「農家が 三軒とも もえている」
"Nouka ga san-gen tomo moeteiru"
"All three farmhouses are burning."

ズーン ズズーン ズーン
Zu-n zuzu-n zu-n
(sounds of incoming shells)

ゴー パチパチ
Go- pachipachi
(burning, crackling)
At the scene of the burning farmhouses, a bomb impacts and hurls a German soldier into the air. Other soldiers hit the dirt trying to escape the ensuing firestorm.

(explosion)
「散れ！！ やられるぞ」
"Chire!! Yarareru zo"
"Scatter!! Or you'll be killed!"
Carius, wide-eyed, stares at the carnage before him.
ロシア軍は 焼夷弾を 使ったのだ。
Roshia-gun wa shouidan o tsukatta no da.
The Russian army used incendiary bombs.
「だから タコツボを...」
"Dakara takotsubo o..."
"That's why they should have made foxholes..."
Bathed in the orange glow of the farmhouse flames, Carius and his Tiger tank move out.
「ゆっくり進め。 ロシア軍の攻撃が あるかもしれない」
"Yukkuri susume. Roshia-gun no kougeki ga aru kamo shirenai"
"Proceed slowly. It may be the Russian army's offensive."
「歩兵は ひどいことに なっているだろう。 あの少年兵たちも...」
"Hohei wa hidoi koto ni natteiru darou. Ano shounen-heitachi mo..."
"I guess the infantrymen were hit badly. Even those young infantrymen..."
