As Carius' Tiger tanks lie in hiding next to a war-torn farmhouse, a barrage of illumination flares reveal their position.

A squadron of Russian fighter-bombers release their payload.

A World War I era Russian biplane climbs away after dropping a single bomb, which impacts near the farmhouse.

Carius inspects a bomb crater that has quickly filled with water.  Pictured directly below, he discusses the situation with another soldier.

Okagede Kariusu no shigoto ga fueta.
  Thanks to it, the work for Carius increased.

爆弾の穴を すべて チェックして歩いた。
Bakudan no ana o subete chekku shite aruita.
  He walked around, checking the bombed hole.

泥炭地は すぐ水が にじみ出てくる。
Deitanchi wa sugu mizu ga nijimi detekuru.
  In peat land, the water seeps out immediately.

戦場を 自由に 走りまわる ためには、穴の位置を 覚えておか なければ ナラナイ。
Senjou o jiyuu ni hashirimawaru tameniwa, ana no ichi o oboete okanakereba naranai.
  He has to remember the locations of the holes in order to run around the battlefield freely.

Two Tiger tanks on the move leave only dust in their wake.

  He smells something burning....  The hard-working Carius moves quickly.

「踏切りの ギリまで いくぞ！！」
"Fumikiri no giri made iku zo!!"
  "We'll go to the edge of the crossing!!"

Carius sticks his head out from the turret to get a clear view of the terrain ahead.

Through his binoculars, Carius spies a Russian tank hiding in the marshlands.

「いたっ！！  戦車だ。  やっぱり」
"Ita!!  Sensha da.  Yappari"
  "There it is!!  It's a tank.  Just as I thought."

[Panel 11]

Carius retreats back into the relative safety of the tank just as a hail of bullets strike the turret.  Whew!!

ロシア兵は すぐ反応する。
Roshia-hei wa sugu hannou suru.
  The Russian soldiers reacted quickly.

As Carius flees the scene, shells impact all around the speeding tanks.

Carius does not look too happy as he ponders the arrival of Russian armor.

"Sensha o hippari kondatte koto wa oretachi no senku o neratteiru shouko da"
  "(The Russians) brought tanks - that's the proof that they're going to attack our sector."
