The two German Tiger tanks continue their approach towards the railroad bunker.

The Russian troops in the railroad bunker take action, with only the muzzle of their cannon visible as it protrudes from the protective camouflage.

「ウワァッ、ばれてるぞ。」

    "Ugh, we're discovered!"

「うてっ、狙え―！」
  "Ute, nerae-!"
    "Shoot, take aim!"

「そんなムリです。」

[Panel 4]

The railroad bunker is destroyed by a direct hit from the Tigers, sending some troops flying.  The remaining troops try to escape the flames and flying debris.

The remains of the destroyed railroad bunker are visible as the Tigers depart the field of battle.

用を すますと 二匹の虎は サッサッと もどっていく。
You o sumasu to nihiki no tora wa sassa-to modotte iku.
  Having finished their business, the two Tigers go back quickly.

Two fortified Russian mortar crews fire on the retreating Tiger tanks.

「にがすな、当てれば 休暇が 出るぞ。」
  "Nigasu na, atereba kyuuka ga deru zo."
    "Don't let them escape, if we hit them we can take a furlough!"

A Russian soldier discusses the battle's outcome with his commander.

  "Mata yararemashita ne..."
    "We were beaten again..."

「クソーッ、カリウスめっ。ナチの腹黒いヘソのくさいブタめ。」
  "Kuso-, Kariusu me.  Nachi no haraguroi heso no kusai buta me."
    "Shit, damned Carius.  Damned black-hearted Nazi, stinking belly-button pig."

Our hero, Otto Carius, is seen poking his head out from the armored confines of his fabled Tiger tank. To his left a Russian communications and machine gun crew taunt Otto while loudspeakers harass the German troops in the field.

実際一九四四年のエストニアで 彼ほど ロシア兵に 憎まれた戦車長は いない。
Jissai 1944-nen no Esutonia de kare hodo Roshia hei ni nikumareta senshachou wa inai.
  In fact, in 1944 Estonia, no other tank commander was hated by Russian soldiers as much as he was.

      because there was no water, he didn't wash his face or brush his teeth [arrow pointing to left ear]

「（暗号）エー　バアちゃんのホーキが 一本おれた。　どうぞ。」
  "(angou) Ee... baa-chan no houki ga ippon oreta.   Douzo."
    "(code) Er... One grandma's broom broke.  Over." [dialog bubble pointing to radio headphones]

  "Onore Kariusu."
    "Hey you, Carius."

     If you catch him, I'll give you a beautiful woman.  [?] pumpkin." [sounds from speaker horn]

スピーカーを 使って、ドイツ兵を 楽しませたりした。
Supiikaa o tsukatte, doitsu hei o tanoshimasetari shita.
  Using the speaker, the Russians amused the German soldiers.

Pictured is the undisturbed verdant landscape of the battle area.

エストニアの湿原は「黒い土地」と地元の人々が 呼ぶ
Esutonia no shitsugen wa "kuroi tochi" to jimoto no hitobito ga yobu
  The Estonian wetlands are called "black land" by the local people.

泥炭の土地で とても戦争なんか できる所じゃない．．．はずだった．．．
Deitan no tochi de totemo sensou nanka dekiru tokoro ja nai... hazudatta...
  It was impossible to fight in the peat lands....

泥炭地の水は 黒い、ヤブ蚊は 大きい！！
Deitanchi no mizu wa kuroi, yabu ka wa ookii!!
  The water of the peat lands is black, and the mosquitoes are enormous!!  [arrow pointing to black water]

A small company of Russian soldiers advance from the left through the marshes and engage the waiting Germans at the water's edge.

ところが ロシア兵は 泥を およいで やって来た。
Tokoro ga roshia hei wa doro o oyoide yattekita.
  But the Russian soldiers came swimming through the mud.

ドイツ側は 大あわて。
Doitsu gawa wa ooawate.
  The German side became greatly disorganized.

なけなしの兵力で うすーい戦線を つくり、とりあえずくい 止めたのだった。
Nakenashi no hei-ryoku de usuui sensen o tsukuri, toriaezukui tometa no datta.
  They formed a thin front with what little force of arms they had, and hastened to stop the Russians.
