The Song of Angry Men
By Etienne Noret

"Follow me to the Barricades!"
He said to us that night.
We followed him, we fought for him,
We died in morning's light.

The kind of love we bore him,
The dreams he made us see
Ask us to forgive him,
They say: "Believe in me."

But we've given up believing,
We've all become Grantaires.
We wonder if he looks for us,
We wonder if he cares.

Small wonder that she chose him,
That she picked him from our lot.
She has chosen him to fight for her
He will not die for naught.

The chaste and perfect angel,
The demi-god, the One;
He lives to fight again, someday
Until the battle's done.
