Troop 99 In
the Community
Troop 99 is very active in the local communities.
Service projects in the last year have included park cleanups,
horse event support, supporting the Main Street Program projects,
and Scouting for Food. Scouts that earn the Citizenship in the
Community merit badge learn about community history, culture,
government, services, etc. The Troop puts an emphasis on preparing
the future leaders of our communities.
Troop 99's Eagle
projects over the years have made a lasting impact on the
community as well as on the individual scouts.
Troop 99 works with the local Cub
Packs to provide a path for the Cubs to continue their scouting
life as they cross over to Boy Scouts. Pack visits to our Troop
meetings and activities are always welcome.
Troop
Newsletter
The Troop publishes a web-based monthly newsletter
called the Compass which keeps scouts
and parents up to date on the latest Troop activities.
History of
Troop 99
While visiting London, William Boyce learned about
Baden Powell's Boy Scout movement in England. He returned to this
country and began what has become a world wide youth program.
The Boy Scouts of America was still in its infancy, when a local
group formed a committee calling itself "The Goffstown Concerned
Citizens". The Concerned Citizens recognized the excellent values
involved with Boy Scouts and chartered the Goffstown Boy Scout
Troop 99 in 1916. Troop 99 is one of the oldest troops in the
country and nearly 100 years later is still actively promoting
the original scouting ideals.
Troop 99 has many scouts working
toward the rank of Eagle Scout. The Troop 99
Eagles' Nest acknowledges the achievements of the Troop 99
scouts who have reached the rank of Eagle in the past, and we
hope that it also serves as an inspiration and resource for those
who aspire to the rank of Eagle
Scout.
Many individuals in our community
have stepped forward to lead our Scouts on their path to adulthood.
Among these individuals, the men who fill the role of Scout
Master are particularly dedicated and hardworking leaders.
Troop 99 has been honored over the years with a fantastic
sequence of Scout Masters.
Troop 99 is interested in obtaining
information, pictures, and other memorabilia relating to the Troop's
early years. We are also assembling a list of past ScoutMasters
and a summary of past Eagle projects. If you have such knowledge
or materials that you would be willing to share with us, please
contact
.
