IP account page creation Creation of a home page from a DialIP account

If you have a DialIP (SLIP or PPP) account at MV Communications, you can create your own home page. All that's required to create and manage your home page is that you have a POP mailbox with MV. (If you don't have one, you can have one created for you even if you don't use it for mail.)

If your account has more than one POP mailbox, you must choose which one you are going to use for managing your home page. Any one of your mailboxes can be used to create the home page, but thereafter, that same mailbox must be used to manage the page.

To create the home page, telnet to the POP server associated with your POP mailbox (e.g., if you are a Concord, NH user, telnet to pop-cnh.mv.net). Log into this server with the username for your POP mailbox (not the mail address, but the POP mailbox name, which is generally your system name, a hyphen, and two or three characters). When prompted, enter the password for the POP mailbox.

After you have logged into the POP server, you'll be presented with a menu. Choose the 'homepage' selection, and, barring problems, your home page will be created. You'll be told the account name and the URL that is used for this page. This function also creates an initial index.html file which can be used as a starting point for your own personal page.

Put data into your home page by using non-anonymous FTP. (Remember not to try to use an anonymous login). Make an FTP connection to the POP server, and use the POP username and password (as above) to log in. At this point you can issue FTP commands to upload your HTML documents to the home page area, or to do other function such as deleting old files or creating subdirectories.
