Connection Rate Survey

This is a completely unscientific survey to get a feel for what kind of connection rates our users are seeing when dialing into various MV hubs. We suspect that people with low rates will have more incentive to fill this out than those with high rates, but be that as it may: one point of this is to correlate any factors contributing to low rates. (However, it would also be nice to be able to uncover factors that contribute to high rates, too.)

Please fill in this information only once for any combination of factors that you use (e.g., hub, where you call from, time of day, etc). If you vote more than once for any combination, we'll consider the last submission the real one. You can make your submission public, in which case it will be viewable here along with the other public submissions. Or you can make your submission private, in which case we'll only use the information ourselves - and if we publish information from private submissions, it will only be in summary form without specific attribution.

Please note: we're interested in the modem connect rates only, please make sure you are reporting the connection rate, and not the rate of your serial port or the average rate of downloads.

What time of day does this report represent?

What rate do you usually get? This should be the rate that the connection stabilizes at. For instance, you might initially connect at 26.4 but after 5-10 minutes the rate might stabilize at 24.0. If you can't tell the rate after the initial connect, just give the initial connect rate.

What low and high rates do you frequently achieve? "Frequently" here should be often enough that you have a reasonable expectation of getting these rates, not a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of thing. Note that these can be the same as your typical rate.

How would you classify the general stability of your connections? We're looking for a gut feel of how long, on the average, you think you can be connected before having to reconnect. You may have to reconnect because your connect rate slows down, or because you get hung up. You should do this by adding up the time that you're on across multiple sessions, e.g. if you're on an hour at a time and have to reconnect once every 20 times or more, you'd enter 20+ hours.

We'd like to know your account name so that we can keep track of duplicate submissions, as well as wanting to know who is submitting this information. Note that we also record the IP address that you are on when you submit this information, in order to accept data only from MV users.
