MV's Single Number PRI access
Single Number PRI access
Access MV via a state-wide Bell Atlantic number
We already have two ways for you to dial us as a local call throughout
New Hampshire. Here's a third choice:
We are pleased to announce the availability of access to MV's IP dialup
network through a statewide Bell Atlantic number. This number is callable
by any Bell Atlantic customer within the 603 area code, and will support
IP dialup users (PPP and SLIP access) using data rates up to V.90 ("56K").
We are offering this service initially in test mode as it is in the first
stages of deployment in New Hampshire. We welcome your feedback and comments
as they will help us (and Bell Atlantic) in evaluating the service.
Why another state-wide number?
By offering you different choices of telephone carrier and equipment
to dial into, we give you a variety of ways to get the best connection
to the Internet. Depending on where you live and what kind of equipment
you use, a particular way of calling us may work better for you than another.
It is in this spirit that we give you these choices.
Using the number
Make sure you are calling from a Bell Atlantic telephone line within
the 603 area code.
Set your software to dial 1-500-699-6387
Dial and and access MV as usual.
Points of notice
You will be calling into the Assured Access remote access server
at MV, which is the same server reached by the
BNH trial numbers. All the same caveats apply.
Bell Atlantic says that its customers within 603 will not be
billed when calling this number. However, this is a brand new service
still under test- it is conceivable (to me) that some charges *might*
show up that would have to be dealt with by calling the business office.
(Evaluate this likelihood as you will.)
If you are served by a non-Bell-Atlantic telco (e.g. one of
the independants such as Hollis or Granite State), we do not yet know
the implications of calling this number.
There are a limited number of ports on this number (currently 69
ports). We doubt that they will fill up during the test period but
please do let us know if you experience congestion.
If you are dialing out from an enterprise-wide telephone
system (e.g. a PBX at a university or hotel) the 1-500- prefix
may not be recognized. This is an issue for the administrators
of that phone system.
