[ Completed at about 5pm June 2 ]
The remaining POP mailboxes will be moved on Sunday, June 2, 1996, starting at about 1pm. This will take a few hours and should be done by 6pm.
As you may know, some POP accounts in some locations were moved to a new POP server on May 12. We'll be finishing up this change by similarly moving the POP accounts for the Concord, Dover, and Peterborough locations. If you have your POP server set to granite.mv.net, gold.mv.net or jade.mv.net, then you should change your configuration to use the proper POP server name (pop-cnh.mv.net, pop-pnh.mv.net or pop-dnh.mv.net, respectively). If you're already using one of the pop-xxx.mv.net names (or pop.mv.net), you need not worry; the change should not be noticable to you. The change should only affect you if you are incorrectly configured to use a specific system name, rather than one of the pop.mv.net names.
The only reason you would not want to make this change is if you're using a POP program to retrieve mail from a shell account located on one of these machines, in which case you should fetch your POP mail from the appropriate shell machine. (But pay attention to the fact that the shell accounts will be moved per the shell account relocations announcment ).
In either situation, you should also take the time to make sure you're using the correct SMTP server. You should have one of the following:
mail-cnh.mv.net Concord users mail-dnh.mv.net Dover users mail-pnh.mv.net Peterborough users
If you receive SMTP mail, make sure to send your qrun requests to the mail-xxx names listed above as well (e.g. to server@mail-dnh.mv.net).
Also, please make sure that your reply address is properly configured. If your email address is joe@somesite.mv.com, your POP mailbox might be somesite-jo@pop-pnh.mv.net . Make sure that your Reply address is set to the correct email address, e.g. joe@somesite.mv.com, and not to the name of the mailbox (e.g. somesite-jo@gold.mv.net is wrong).
All mailboxes affected by this move will be inaccessible throughout
the day while the mailboxes and system configurations are being
changed, in order not to corrupt your mail. Any mail that is sent to
you during that time should still make it to your mailbox, and you
shouldn't have any lost mail during this period.
ALL POP mailboxes will be inaccessible during much of this time.
