What is a Mailbox Account?Simply put, an MV Mailbox Account provides you with access to your email. But it's more than that: it offers you filtering and filing capabilities, multiple folders, storage for other files, and control over your incoming mail. |
What do you get?
|
Mailbox Accounts are included with a number of MV account types. In the future we expect to offer mailbox accounts individually.
Mailbox account access: each mailbox has its own name and password. You use the name and password to access this mailbox, its inbox, and any other folders or files stored in the account.
Email addresses: An email address is what people use when they send you mail. It's important to remember that the email address and the mailbox account are two very different things. You might have several different email addresses going to the same mailbox. MV Communications will configure our mail server to set up the appropriate mappings and deliver mail to your mailbox.
Web-based mail: MV provides a webmail utility that lets you access your mailbox account using a web browser. This is a convenient way for you to check your mail or send mail while you are away from your usual computer, or to manage your mailbox account.
Filters: MV provides server-based mail filters that you can set up using the webmail utility. (You can also write filter programs directly if you are so inclined, although this is not for everyone.) Using these filters, you can block certain kinds of mail, automatically file your mail into folders, discard mail you don't want, forward mail to other locations, and take other actions on incoming mail messages.
Storage: Each mailbox account has a home directory on our mailbox server. You can use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to store files here if you choose.
