DSL/V accounts

What is a DSL/V account?

A DSL/V account gives you a high speed, always-on "broadband" connection to the Internet, using your regular Fairpoint voice line. (You can use your voice line for normal phone calls at the same time you use it for DSL Internet access). DSL/V is based on asymmetric (ADSL) technology, meaning that in most cases your download data rate is higher than your upload rate. This is perfect for most users, who need higher receive rates than transmit rates.

DSL/V is available in many locations in New Hampshire.

Speed: This is the ADSL line data rate in bits per second in both directions. Two numbers are given: the first is the download line data rate in bits per second (towards you), and the second is the upload line data rate (towards MV). Note that this is the maximum signalling rate, which may vary depending on various physical factors; and actual download or upload performance may vary.

Availability: DSL/V is available in a large number of towns in New Hampshire. (See the list.)

Setup: Basic setup fee for the installation. Covers installation of the DSL line to the demarcation point at the customer location; additional inside wiring must either be provided by the you or, if available, may be requested of the DSL installer. Does not cover customer-end DSL equipment such as a DSL modem.

Extras

With your MV DSL account, you also get:

A node name in the .mv.com domain that is used for your email address. You can pick a name "yourname.mv.com" as long as it is not already taken or reserved;
Up to 5 mailboxes (15 for business DSL lines) on MV's mailserver, which you can access with email programs using either POP3 or IMAP mail protocols (more are available for a small fee);
A standard web service web page with up to 20 MB of disk storage and up to 1000 MB (1 gigabyte) of data transferred per month;
A web server alias for that will map "www.your_name.com" into your standard web space (note that registration of the domain itself is a separate issue requiring fees to a registration authority; MV can help with the registration process);
A "DSL companion" dialup IP account that can be used for, for example, off-site access for short periods. The DSL companion account provides you up to 20 hours per month at no extra charge (time beyond 20 hours will be charged at $.20/hour);
MV can provide domain nameservice for your domain name, e.g. "your_name.com". Note that registration fees to an Internic authority are extra and are your responsibility, however we can help with the registration process;
Access to MV's Usenet news server;
