Lisa
Arsenault, who will be remembered by her nom de plume — Scarlet Delaney,
of Scarlet’s Poetry Den — passed away on April 13, 2001.
Scarlet
was one of the original community members of VP 1.0 beta, the very first
Virtual Places community on the Net, which began in early 1995. There she
founded Scarlet’s Poetry Den — pioneering what would become online “events”
for VP communities, bringing VP its first poetry-reading community. She
brought the Poetry Den to Excite in 1997, as one of the first hosts
to join hosting when Excite opened VP on their servers, following
that by bringing the Den to ZDNet’s VP as well.
She was
beloved of the online poetry community, and nurtured many aspiring as well
as seasoned poets with her advice, encouragement, and grace. As a writer,
we have some of her best body of work, in both spoken and written form,
to stand in her memory at her award-winning website, www.poetryden.com.
She is survived
by her husband and children.
