The Meeting School
about
Senior Advising

The Meeting School prepares students for college and for all of life.  Most TMS students, about 80%, go to college, but many wait a year or two and gain life experience in travel and work first.  About half of our seniors apply to go to college right away. Some students begin work they hope to do for a long time, such as farming, or another trade.

During the fall, writing seminars work on college application essays, and students who wish to take SATs can get help preparing.  The College Advisor has many resources on choosing colleges, as well as other opportunities for graduates.  Often the school hosts college representatives, and takes trips to visit colleges that interest TMS students.

Most colleges find students from our unusual school very interesting and appealing.  Our pass/fail system with written evaluations does not harm students' chances of being accepted into college; colleges appreciate the written evaluations and give extra attention to recommendations and in some cases, SAT scores.  We are able to write very detailed recommendations for our seniors because we have known them intimately and seen their strengths in many contexts other than just the classroom.

Some colleges our recent graduates attend include:  Earlham, Warren Wilson, Marlboro, Antioch, Naropa, University of Montana, Curry, and Hampshire College.
