Intersession

Finding, designing and organizing a fruitful, exciting Intersession project is an important challenge each student faces every year.

During Intersession, a four-week block in late winter, all students leave campus and do independent study projects in an area of special interest to them.  The project might be an internship, travel, a service project, or any other educational opportunity that they can participate in full-time for those four weeks.

Intersession is an opportunity to go deeper into a subject that fascinates you, challenges you, and means a lot to you.  Perhaps it is related to where you would like to go after graduation; perhaps it is just the gift of some time to explore something you otherwise might never have done.

Students research opportunities and interests, contact organizations and sponsors, and work out all the details with the help of parents and faculty. Some recent Intersession projects include an archaeological dig in South Carolina, a firsthand study of Japanese education and culture, and an apprenticeship with a taxidermist.
