A regular week at TMS includes four class days, Community Meeting day on Wednesdays, and a half-day program called Forum on Saturday mornings.
A class day begins with breakfast at 7:00 am; a few students and faculty have risen earlier to milk the cows and feed the animals.
Opening, a gathering of the entire community, follows at 7:45 am. Opening begins with group singing and includes a time of extended silent reflection, attendance recording, and announcements.
Morning classes include an 80 minute long-block class that changes each trimester, and two 50 minute short-block classes, usually a student's math class and writing seminar.
Lunch is at noon, a time when house groups sit together in our dining room to share the meal and check in about any house business for the day.
After lunch, some students and faculty clean up, while others may take advantage of the "siesta" break to have meetings, take walks, or do homework.
After lunch is another long-block class. On Tuesdays and Fridays this is followed by our work-study time, a time when all members of the community are organized into crews to do necessary work such as wood-chopping and stacking, the recycling run, farm and garden work, maintenance, and cleaning. Some students help with child care; others help prepare the evening meal.
On Mondays, there is time for Student Meeting after classes before supper; on Thursdays, other committees meet and each house cooks supper together at home. In the late afternoon every day there is time for outdoor games and other physical exercise.
After supper, some students may be assigned to Study Hall, or may choose to go for some quiet study support; others do homework where they choose, or have free time.
One evening a week many students go contra dancing in a nearby town; during the winter there are often evening skiing trips.
On Tuesday nights houses gather for an hour to clean, have fun together, or to have House Meeting.
Wednesdays
On Wednesdays students prepare brunch in their houses, while the faculty hold Faculty Meeting.
After brunch, the community gathers for Community Meeting, a time when faculty and students discuss community issues and make decisions together about many significant aspects of community life.
Saturday Forum
On Saturdays, breakfast and Opening are an hour later. After Opening, all students participate in Forum, which might be a variety of different programs from week to week.
After Forum, students have free time for the rest of the weekend and may choose to leave campus.
