The Ravens

The Ravens are a mildly experienced party of adventurers who have travelled from one end of the Ten Towns to the other, slowly building up a reputation as a intimidating bunch of sellswords. In actuality, their reputation is rather overblown, in large part due to the efforts of Thera, the party's bard. The Ravens prefer to remain mysterious as it lets them do things that more visible groups could not.

The Ravens' reputation is one of intimidation, brutality, and mercilessness. In a sense, this reputation is somewhat correct. Braxis, the Ravens' leader, often tries to intimidate those enemies. He sees this as a form of mercy, although he never lets the target of his intimidation know this. However, those that refuse to be scared will feel the brutality of Braxis's blade.

Name: Braxis
Race/Gender: Aasimar Male
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Fighter X
Stats: STR 18, DEX 12, CON 18, INT 10, WIS 10, CHA 12
Favorite Weapon: Greatsword

Once, long ago, Braxis was on the path that many of his Aasimar blood take, the path of the paladin. However, before he was old enough to begin his training, Braxis's life was changed drasticly. His mother was slaughtered before his very eyes by a band of marauding orcs. He and his tiefling half-sister, Fantom, only escaped harm because they had been hidden just before the orcs broke into their family's house and they remained silent in stark terror. That night Braxis swore that he would seek vengence for his mother, even if that quest took a lifetime.

Braxis is very protective of his half-sister, in spite of her obvious tiefling heritage. The bond between them is very strong. Braxis has spent much of his life protecting Fantom from bigots that would harass and attack her. As she grew older and became much more able to defend herself, he had to spend more of his efforts in trying to calm her ferocious temper. Although Braxis trusts her ability to look after herself in battle, he will slay anyone that hurts his beloved sister.

In combat, Braxis is a fairly traditional melee warrior. He is skilled in many weapons, but prefers a stout greatsword. Oddly, Braxis likes to use darts and throwing daggers, rather than more traditional ranged weapons.

Name: Fantom
Race/Gender: Tiefling Female
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Rogue X/Barb Y (2/1 ratio??)
Stats: STR 18, DEX 18, CON 16, INT 14, WIS 8, CHA 4
Favorite Weapon: Bow and Scimitar ??

Fantom is an incredible physical specimen. She is both amazingly strong and nimble and quite intelligent as well. As a result of her tiefling heritage, Fantom has a very unsettling look to her with her gray skin and pitch black cat-like eyes. Add to that, she is very quiet, in an almost feral manner. Her glare almost always reminds people of a big cat sizing up its prey. Luckily for most people, they never see the darker side of Fantom's feral personality, for when she springs into action, Fantom fights with all the ferocity of an enraged tiger.

Although it is not public knowledge outside of the party, Fantom is actually Braxis' younger half-sister. Their sibling bond is unbreakable, despite their different heritages. Braxis' presense has always been a calming influence on Fantom. And in battle, Fantom will slay anyone hurts her beloved brother.

Fantom was quiet even as a child and the trauma of witnessing her mother's murder left Fantom nearly silent for many months. Even now, Fantom will rarely speak to anyone other than Braxis and, even then, only in muted whispers. However, when circumstances dictate, Fantom can make her wishes heard loud and clear. Her soft spokenness is simply a part of her feral, feline nature.

Fantom excells at many roles in the group. She often fights at Braxis' side in melee, but she will also use her bow with equal skill. And to top it all off, Fantom is so incredibly stealthy that she is a devastating scout.

One thing of note is that Fantom is not the most skilled of warriors in the normal sense of the word. Her fighting style is rather wild and barely controlled, relying more on brute strengthm, speed, and ferocity than skill at arms. Fantom will however stay at her brother's side than run down a fleeing foe.

Name: Zatar
Race/Gender: Human Male
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Fighter X/Sorceror X
Stats: STR 16, DEX 16, CON 14, INT 8, WIS 8, CHA 14
Favorite Weapon: Bastard Sword and Bow

Zatar is an oddity, a human spellsword. With a warrior father and a mother who was a talented sorceress, Zatar grew up with the ways of sword and sorcery. As he came of age, it became clear to his parents that Zatar didn't have the talent necessary to be greatly skilled in the sorcerous arts, though he could be more than a simple adept. And it was also quite clear that young Zatar had picked up quite a bit of skill with the bow and blade from his father.

Then one day, they received a visit from an old family friend, an elven wizard named Eelin. Zatar's mother discussed his prediciment with Eelin and to their surprise, he suggested that young Zatar might benefit from some training with a Eelin's brother, Nylin, a bladesinger of considerable skill and repute. Eelin arranged for his brother to visit the family the following season and he remained for the better part of year, training young Zatar in the ways of both sword and battle magics. Zatar took well to the training and absorbed it like water into sand.

Eventually, Nylin had to end the training and head back to his home to the south. However, before leaving for home, Nylin arranged for Zatar to meet Scytane, the son of an old friend, who he knew to be in Easthaven. Although the two did not immediately become fast friends, Scytane respected the wishes of Nylin. Further, Scytane quietly introduced Zatar to some new acquainances, Braxis and his company. Braxis was looking for another trained sword and Zatar was looking for a place to put his skills to good use.

Zatar is a bit of a fop, never wanting to go into action without being "properly" dressed as befitting of a elegant and evlen trained spellsword. Luckily, for his teammates, Zatar is sensible enough to realize that his foppish nature is a risk to their cover as merchants. Thus, he assumes the role of a tailor within their merchant caravan, but he limits himself to making the rather unstylish clothes that are favored by most of those in the Ten Towns and dresses accordingly. However, when playing the role of the swashbuckling spellsword, Zatar is able to release his inhibitions and dresses the part to the hilt.

Zatar is a quite popular member of the Ravens. He is a terribly friendly sort and is able to get along with nearly everyone. Every so often, his nature will turn off some of the more gruff people that they encounter and will place him in potentially tight situations. But between his unflagging good nature and Thera's bardic ability to talk her way out of nearly any bind, Zatar rarely ends up having to fight his way out of such a scuffle. However, on those rare occasions when good nature, friendly words, and plenty of ale won't soothe some angry drunk, Zatar is more than capable of defending himself, usually leaving the rowdy on the floor unconscious and not a drop of his tankard of ale spilled.

Zatar is a trained spellsword, skilled in both blade and bow. And while he will fight with a bow, his preference is to fight his enemies with a sword (or two) in hand.

Name: Scytane
Race/Gender: Moon Elf Male
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Illusionist X
Stats: STR 10, DEX 18, CON 14, INT 18, WIS 10, CHA 6
Favorite Weapon: Bow

Scytane is an elven illusionist of considerable skill. However, Scytane's hauty and surly personality caused a great deal of trouble for him at the elven school of wizardry and he was kicked out for his insolence to the masters. Scytane traveled the lands of Faerun, eventually coming to the frozen lands of Icewind Dale where he met Braxis, Thera, and Sareena in the rebuilt Easthaven.

In spite of his rather abrasive personality, Scytane gets along fairly well with his party mates. Scytane is an alchemist for the Raven's merchant cover.

In battle, Scytane will avoid hand-to-hand combat at all costs. It is below a mage of his power to sully his hands in melee. Like most elves, Scytane is proficient with the bow, but he truly prefers to use his arcane skilsl to defeat his enemies.

Name: Saleena
Race/Gender: Human Female
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Silverstar of Selune X
Stats: STR 16, DEX 10, CON 14, INT 8, WIS 18, CHA 10
Favorite Weapon: Staves and Polearms

Saleena is a Silverstar of Selune and lifelong friend of Thera. Sareena was accompanying Thera to Lonelywood, when they rescued Braxis and Fantom from a barroom brawl. Since then, Braxis and Thera married and the foursome started up their little band of merchant-adventurers.

Saleena is a rather odd sort. She is wise beyond her years, a not uncommon trait for one of her calling, and is definitely quite fetching in appearance. However, Saleena is certainly a less than intelligent person. On more than one occasion, Thera has called her in jest, "my best friend, the dumb blonde." Saleena has never been offended by it, because she knows that there's no malice in in it.

Saleena is the party's primary healer and backs up Braxis and Fantom in melee. Her favored weapons are staves and polearms. Saleena is also reasonably proficient with a sling.

Name: Thera
Race/Gender: Human Female
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Bard X
Stats: STR 10, DEX 14, CON 12, INT 16, WIS 8, CHA 14
Favorite Weapon: Crossbow

Thera is Braxis' wife and the group's bard. Many a time has Thera spun tall tales and sung herioc ballads of the exploits of The Ravens in the towns that the group visits while in their merchant alter egos. Thera often tells of how she and her husband were saved from marauding orcs by the intrepid adventurers.

Thera met Braxis and Fantom during a brawl in a barroom in Lonelywood many months ago. Apparantly, some of the drunkards had either insulted Fantom or were trying to manhandle her. In any case, Thera and Saleena didn't care. This big strong Aasimar man was defending a Tiefling girl against a barrom full of rowdies. (To be fair, the tiefling girl was more than holding her own.) Thera put a couple of bolts into the wall, then distracted the drunkards with her loud singing, while Sareena took out a couple of rowdies with her staff. The distraction was more than enough for Braxis and Fantom to lay low the few ramaining rowdies. And when Braxis and Thera finally laid their eyes on each other, well, the rest is history.

Thera is fairly capable in a supporting role in combat. She prefers to cast enchanting magics and to sing her bardic songs to actually diving into the heart of melee.
