SPMUG634 iPhoto's Hidden Tools iPhoto 6 has some hidden controls for its Red-Eye and Retouch tools. First, make sure that iPhoto's General preferences are set to "Edit In Main Window." Then, when you double-click an image and select either tool, press and hold the Control key and then press and hold the Caps Lock key. With both keys still held down, press 9. (How's that for obscure?) Congratulations: you're now in advanced editing mode. Press the Tab key to see the cursor change shape and press it again to cycle through each tool's different modes. You can resize the area affected by the tool by using the bracket keys ([ and ]). You can affect the strength of the Retouch tool by pressing Shift/[ and Shift/]. Press Tab again to switch to Retouch's Lighten mode. In the Red-Eye tool, Shift/click to get a lighter fill than usual.
