spmug 609 There's help if you can't open Power Point attachments By James Coates Chicago Tribune Q: I am trying to open an e-mail attachment that has .pps as its extension. No .pps extension is listed in the file types registered on my computer, thus I am not able to open the attachment. Can you help me? A: Files ending with the .pps extension are created by people using Microsoft's somewhat costly PowerPoint presentation program. They include slide shows, modest animations and various graphics bells and whistles designed to be projected on a screen or printed into boring sheaves of 8 x 10 paper. Happily, while you need to either acquire Microsoft Office or a stand-alone copy of PowerPoint to create those files, Microsoft distributes free software to view PowerPoint shows. The easiest way to get your viewer to open those files is to use the Microsoft support center at www.support.microsoft.com. Type in ppviewer as a search word and you'll be walked through the download and installation process. That will set your computer to include .pps among the registered file types and create the viewer to kick in automatically when they are clicked.
