Cooling rack good for laptops as well as cookies

Q: If I was going to use a laptop for mobile DJing (all my songs are in
MP3 format on laptop), do I have to be concerned about the laptop heat?
I will be running the laptop for about three hours connected to
externally powered speakers.


A: It shouldn't be a problem. Any laptop in good repair should do fine
for three hours. And connecting external speakers won't make the machine
run hotter.

I do have a suggestion, however, and it sounds a little like a joke but
is not. If you want a cool-running laptop, buy a cooling rack made for
baking and use it as a stand.

If you feel the bottom of a laptop that's been running for a while
you'll see that's where most of the heat radiates. Putting the laptop on
a wire rack offers air circulation under the machine for cooling. There
are commercial stands made for laptops that do the same thing in the
same way. But this is cheaper and works just as well.
