rock climbing | ultimate frisbee

If you're thinking to yourself "those aren't sports!!" let me tell you otherwise!!! They are both sports that take a lot of skill and sweat! Ok, now that I've got that off my chest.... :)

rock climbing
I first climbed up at
Horton Center a loooong time ago. I had fun, but never really thought much more about it than that. Then there was the Allard Center gym, a converted squash court, but it was too far to really get into it.

Then came morty....boulder morty's, to be exact. The largest gym in New England opened up 10-15 minutes from my house. SWEET! So last spring I started going, and the rest is history... :) The gym is fabulous, with an incredibly friendly, skilled and helpful staff and great regulars, too. Next year I'm hoping to be on the team, competing in JCCA competitions. There's also a possibility that I'll be working there, helping out with kids' parties and the like...I can't wait!

ultimate frisbee
CTY is to blame for my frisbee obsession. Countless 15-minute break circles and 4 tournaments later, I'm in France where no one knows what a frisbee IS. It's quite amusing. I'm planning on taking a few of my class friends out to the beach in June to show them what it's all about. I'm not so hung up on "ultimate", either. I'm just as happy tossing the disc around randomly with a friend or a few friends. One thing I am obsessive about, however, is the weight of the disc. Sorry, but it's gotta be a 175gram if you wanna do anything good with it. Aerobies can suffice sometimes, especially when there's lots of wind. But in general, give me my 175ers!! I have a collection of them, including the standard
Wham-O 175- Ultimate, 2 CTY discs (I've got a Phish of Phate!!), and others... Frisbee trivia for the day: Wham-O is the only company that makes "Frisbees"...all the others are only "flying discs"...The name is trademarked by Wham-O.
