   B. departments -- equivalent to counties  
      1. Ile-et-Vilaine -- 2 rivers of the department  
         a. Rennes  
            1) capital of the dept. and modern capital of the region  
            2) university -- student city  
            3) centered around a canal  
            4) la rue de la soif -- Thursday night big drinking/partying night because a lot of the students return home  
for the weekend and have apartments in the city for the week  
         b. St-Malo  
            1) very famous port city  
            2) bombarded in WWII  
            3) walled city  
      2. Cotes d'Armor -- Orignally the Cotes du Nord (North Coasts), the name was changed to boost tourism  
         a. St-Brieuc  
            1) capital of the dept.  
            2) small, pedestrian city  
            3) cathedral de St-Etienne  
            4) la place du chai -- 8 cafés in a semi-circle  
         b. Perros-Guirec -- example of pink granite coast  
         c. Tréguier  
            1) example of a small breton city  
            2) pardon of St-Yves, a lawyer  
      3. Morbihan  
         a. La Trinité sur Mer
            1) famous port on the southern coast Bretagne...lots of sailing and fishing boats
            2) home of Plisson [external link], marine photographer, "Fisherman of Images"
        b. The Wild Coast (La Côte Sauvage) -- very pretty coast near la Trinité
            1) coastal view
            2) a pretty wave
      4. Finistèere -- Translates as "the end of the earth" (fini + terre), because of its harsh weather  
         a. Brest  
            1) completely destroyed in WWII  
            2) rebuilt very quickly in the 50s, which is evident in the architecture  
         b. the departement the most "breton"...lots of people speak and/or understand Breton
      5. Loire Atlantique -- only historical Brittany  
         a. Nantes  
            1) the original capital of Brittany  
            2) there is still the castle of the kings of Brittany  
         b. There is currently a movement for the Loire Atlantique to revert to Brittany.
