The Center for Psychiatric Internetworking

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Just as the Shrinkatron page, this one is dead.)

The CPI is an only partially-realized idea of Dr. Mark Stevens. The plan is to create a full-featured Internet node devoted to psychiatric internetworking. It is hoped that this will eventually include:

MindWeb, a set of psychiatric World-Wide Web pages showcasing the range of expertise of UTMB's faculty.
Academic psychiatric news, mail, and list servers.
MediMUD, an interactive cyber-hospital, in the form of a "multi-user domain" with patient simulations for medical students.
UNIX shell accounts on the Shrinkatron for work by psychiatrists or trainees without other adequate internet access.

There is no plan to exclude psychology, social work, psychiatric nursing, or other related mental health content. I am unapologetic, though, about the initial strong psychiatric and medical focus. Since I am the only person currently working on the project, that emphasis reflects my own training and interests. Those interested in seeing non-psychiatric content or other sorts of servers are encouraged to contact the webmaster to get involved in contributing.

At present this work is taking place on the Shrinkatron, a privately-owned i386/33 running Linux, on personal time. Support in the form of grants toward more robust hardware and financial justification for the use of professional time is being sought.
