Our Approach to the Community
There are a lot of different reasons businesses stay and grow in Peterborough. You've probably heard about the quality of life and outstanding cultural opportunities, recreations of all kinds, the great schools, all nestled in a region of quaint little towns. But the main reason we're here is because we like it. Especially for me, the community involvement and friendships stand above all else. My children have gone off to college and both have graduated with a BS degree. But I used to take them to school on my way to work, from kindergarten all the way through high school. There's one act which became very near and dear to my daily routine, as well as a lesson in social skills for Greg and Angelia. And you can still see me perform this courteous act everyday. For the youngsters, it was an embarrassment. But I continued anyway, always with a sincere smile on my face. Here it is...I waved to all my friends, taking their kids to school on Concord Street, downtown and even in the school parking lot. At first Greg and Ang would duck down so as not to be seen with such a dork of a father. It later became a challenge for them to note when a friend did not wave back, at which point the dork part was in their mind justified. One friend of mine, a doctor, God knows he has other things on his mind, passed each day without waving, looking straight ahead. But I kept waving anyway. They ducked lower in the seat while dishing out more verbal abuse. I said, "you know one day he will see me, and he will wave back, and smile." What an experience, that one time he did see us, smile, and wave. Angelia and Greg saw the joy in connecting with a person, showing approval and happiness, just to see you. After that they began waving to their friends. And they would wave back. After ten years, now it was fun. And I too would wave at my new young friends. And before you knew it, their friends were waving, even when Greg and Ang weren't in the car. We are keeping and growing our business here because your friendships are important.
