Household Disposal

Newspaper: All newspaper and any inserts may be deposited at the newspaper window.
 

Mixed Paper and Magazines:  All other house hold paper, junk mail, envelopes, computer paper, shredded paper, magazines, cereal boxes, rice board, all non corrugated cardboard Etc.

#2 Plastics: These products will have a #2 stamped on the bottom of the container. Examples: detergent bottles, Mustard containers, some butter containers, Etc. These must be rinsed, crushed, and flattened

Milk Jugs: All milk jug type products including the "light Block" type. These must be rinsed, crushed and flattened.

Clear #1 plastic: These containers are marked PETE and include: Soda Bottles, condiment containers, Etc. These will vary in color from clear to green to brown. These must be rinsed, crushed, and flattened.

Aluminum Cans: Aluminum cans, excluding cat food cans.

Vermont Returnable: Any container that is labeled as “Vt. 5 cent deposit”.

Tin Cans: All other type metal containers. These will go into the plastic gaylords in front and to the left of the counter.

Cardboard: Cardboard must be cleaned dry and flattened. We can accept all types of cardboard except wax coated cardboard. Cardboard goes into the bin at west end of the recycling building. Pizza boxes are not accepted as they contain oils that will contaminate the bale, these can be deposited with regular trash.*

Glass: All glass products are to be put into the pit on the southwest corner of the building, next to the metal pit we can take glass bottles, porcelain sinks and toilets (all metal must be removed), plates, and window glass.

All other household trash will go into the compactor out in front.

Burn Pile Hours

Acceptable items:

  • Brush and wood under 5 inches in diameter
  • Clean non-treated wood

Unacceptable items

  • Painted or stained wood
  • Plywood
  • Pressure treated wood
  • Sheetrock
  • Furniture of any kind
  • Wood containing metal

Cost: None

The State of New Hampshire regulates and inspects this pile on a random basis. They have the authority to fine the Town, close the pile or both if contaminants are found.

Due to costs and regulations we no longer accept demolition materials.

Demolition is taken to Waste Management, located on Route 202 in Peterborough. They are open M-F 8-4 and Saturday 8-12. They charge a nominal fee per pound, with the minimum being a $10.00 charge.

Demolition material includes any wood that is painted, treated, stained, or glued. They can take furniture, sheetrock, pressure treated wood, shingles, and plywood.

Specialty Items

Tires: Tires can be dropped off. We charge by size, Minimum of $3.00.

Scrap Metal: scrap metal can be deposited in the pit on the west side of the lot.

Latex Paint. Latex paint needs to be dry. Add kitty litter to the paint and let harden, then deposit in the compactor.

Unacceptable Materials

Hazardous Waste: Hazardous waste must be stored by the homeowner until a Household Hazardous waste day. We usually have one every two years.

Furniture: Furniture must be taken to Waste Management located in Peterborough.

Freon: We cannot accept any appliance that contains Freon. This includes refrigerators, freezers, Air conditioners, Etc.
