The Town of Hancock Cemetery Trustees oversees the
care and maintenance of 3 public cemeteries within the Town of Hancock. The cemetery
Sexton is responsible for the day to day care and maintenance, and works
under the direction of the Cemetery Trustees.
The oldest cemetery, Pine Ridge, is located
at the intersection of Old
Dublin Road and Main Street. Lots are no longer
available in this cemetery. This cemetery is home to many of
Hancock’s early residents and is the final resting place for many
Revolutionary war and Civil War veterans.
Norway Plain Cemetery is behind the Congregational Church and is the
second cemetery built in Hancock, on what was known as “the
plains”. Although all the full burial lots are sold we still have
many cremation only lots available in this cemetery. This cemetery still
accepts almost half of all interments done in Hancock.
Hillside cemetery is located on NH Route 137N about 1 mile out of
town. This cemetery is the only cemetery that still has available full
interment lots, as well as cremation lots.
Funding for our cemeteries comes from
a variety of sources. Some of the older lots are funded through perpetual
care trust funds, others are funded through an expendable trust, and the balance are funded through fees charged for services.
Since 2002 the cemeteries have been operated with no tax dollars.
Lot Sales and interments Can be
scheduled through the sexton. A full copy of rules and regulations can be
found at the link to the left, or contact the sexton for a hard copy that
can be mailed.
The sexton may be reached at
