The State Legislature passed several new laws in 2005. This is just a short description of some of the new laws that may be of interest. Copies of the entire laws may be accessed at WWW.NH.GOV website.
First the legislature has raised several of the fines some that may be of interest are:
Speeding in a 55 MPH or under speed zone
Speeding 1-10 MPH over the limit 50.00
Speeding 11-15 over the limit 75.00
Speeding 16-20 over the limit 100.00
Speeding 21-25 over the limit 200.00
Speeding 26+ over the limit is a must appear
Speeding in a 65MPH speed limit
Speeding 1-5 over 65 MPH limit 65.00
Speeding 6-10 over 65 MPH limit 100.00
Speeding 16-20 over 65 MPH limit 250.00
Speeding 21-25 over 65 MPH limit 350.00
Speeding in a highway construction zone 300.00 or must appear
Speeding to fast for existing road conditions – must appear (judge will decide)
Capitol Murder – The change increases the age at which one may be prosecuted for capitol murder from 17 to 18 years of age.
Helmets for Cyclists under
16 – Kids under the age of 16 must wear approved protective headgear, or be
subject to a $35.00 fine. THE Hancock PD has Child Bike Helmets available free of
charge.
Criminal Trespass – The change provides for penalties for trespassing resulting in damage to property.
Harassing Phone Calls – This addition to the law adds making telephone call harassment if the purpose of the call is to annoy abuse, threaten or alarm.
Driver’s license – Provides a penalty for being convicted for driving with out a license for youth operators.
Disorderly Conduct – Expands Police officers powers to keep people away from a public place in an emergency.
Registration of Sex offenders – Expands the class of persons who are required to register.
Violation of Privacy /”Peeping Tom” – Criminalizes unlawful surveillance of ones home.
Crime Victims employment act – Provide employees who are victim of crimes with job security while appearing in court.
Collaborative Practice for emergency Contraception – allows pharmacists to dispense the “morning after pill”.
