Ruby is the creation of a fabulous doll artist by the name of Janet Miko Bosworth, and I am
her lucky owner. Janet and her sister Joyce create wonderful dolls together under the name
of "TUJAYS". They also make dolls individually and are the founding mothers of AADA (The Academy
of American Doll Artists) and VAAC (Visual Arts Academy of Concord-NH). In 1996 I attended the AADA Fall Doll Tour and spotted one of Janet's bag ladies. She was so life-like I wanted to talk to her. Her name was Martha (I think) and she stood about 42" high. She was as attainable as the moon to me at the time. A few months later I actually met Janet in person and we came to a creative agreement. In November of 1997, Ruby came to live with me. She had spend a few days with Janet's sister, Joyce, before she came here and Joyce did warn me to "Look out for her, she's not to be trusted." "Sure, sure," I thought, "just how much trouble can a stationary object get into?" Let me tell you! The very first thing I discovered was - Ruby is a pickpocket. I kept finding wallets in her bag, in her hands and sometimes she would just drop them on the floor and pretend that she had nothing at all to do with them. But she wasn't fooling me. Now, up until Ruby arrived, my 13 year old cat slept by my side every night, but no more. Oh, sure he'd come running if he heard me up or moving around, but he wasn't in the bedroom anymore. One morning, about a week before Christmas, I found Ruby wearing a tacky, faded plastic poinsettia in her cap. And I knew it didn't come from MY HOUSE! My husband thought she was going out at night and that maybe we needed to get a dead bolt. And that wasn't the end of it. New Years morning I got up and there she was, her hair a mess her cap askew, and worst of all....in her arms she had THIS! I was certain the police would be at my door momentarily. Things have been quiet around here for a while. Ruby was on her best behavior all summer while the grand kids were around (at least, I hope she didn't teach them to pick pockets). But after less than a year with Ruby, I'm not fooled...she's up to something. And when it happens, I'll keep you posted.....

CONTEST WINNER-Gail Holt Finally! Ruby's secret life revealed...as told exclusively to this Supernateral Enquirer reporter. After almost a year, Ruby has agreed to break her silence and tell inquiring minds what actually happened that New Year's Eve of 1998. "It all began as a rather routine evening. I waited until 'the big folk' had gone to bed, and I snuck out through the kitty door. I wandered down to one of my old hangouts, a rather seedy bar not too far from home. I had thought I might find a few drunks 'ripe for the pickin'...if you know what I mean. (Wendy was right about me, I did enjoy getting a few free items now and then.) "Alas, all the men who might have been attracted to a real woman of the world had dates. (It being New Year's Eve and all.) I started home feeling more than a little dejected when suddenly a bright light appeared from out of nowhere. A figure beckoned me to come closer, and having no interest in going home so early and without anything to show for my evening, I warily approached. "Whoosh...suddenly I found myself flying through space and time, propelled along in a vehicle of unknown origin. There was a captain, an alien with very strange pointed ears, and a darling engineer with a Scottish brogue. I was given an assignment working aboard this vessel, which they called the Enterprise. "Light years passed, spent delightfully going where no man, woman, or doll had gone before. Incredible wonders of the universe unfolded before my eyes. But then in a click, it was gone. I found myself back on the street in front of Wendy's home, with my darling son, Scotty, (named after his father of course) in my arms. "How had this happened? What exactly had occurred? I don't know, dear reader. But little Scotty is living proof that my story is true....as are all the stories in the Supernateral Enquirer." Submitted by Gail Holt...an inquiring reporter who believes that the truth is out there....and who also watches too much sci-fi on TV. |
