Course Description.

 

This course helps the learner who has little or no knowledge of computers to learn how to make the computer perform word processing tasks, use email, and search the Web.

 

Course Objectives.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will understand: 

    1. How to get your computer to write letters, save them for later use, and how to make changes to what you have already saved.
    2. How to prepare and utilize email for communication.
    3. How to use a Web Browser.
    4. How to choose and use a Search Engine for locating wanted information.

 

Lesson Schedule.

Lesson                                                          Task

Lesson 1

Introduction to computers, working with the word processor, composing written messages, saving, retrieving, changing, and resaving it.

Lesson 2

Workshop creating documents, altering documents, formatting them, saving, recalling, and resaving them.

Lesson 3

Introduction to the Internet, getting an email account that can be reached from any computer that is anywhere in the world.

Lesson 4

Learning about good email programs. Using address books, and other special options of these programs. Retrieving information using email.

Lesson 5

Learning about Browsers, where to get them and how to choose them.

Lesson 6

Choosing and using general and specialized Search Engines.
