Computer Generated Field Strength Predictions

Field Strength Study Models

Using the results of Path Plots, several types of field strength plot overlay/superimposition are offered. The type of study and model is based upon frequency, communication service and terrain. The results provide an accurate prediction of the coverage of a communications system. Currently the following models are in use:

Broadcast: derived from FCC Report No. R-6602 and Part 73 of the FCC Rules

Carey: derived from FCC Report no. R-6406, FCC Docket 94-201 and part 22 of the FCC Rules.

Bullington: derived from IEEE Transaction Vol. Vt-26, No. 4, Kenneth Bullington

Okumura: derived from "Field Strength and its Variability in VHF and UHF Land-Mobile Radio Service" by Yoshihisa Okumura et al, as published in The Review Of the Electrical Communications Laboratory, Vol. 16, No. 9-10.

Longely Rice: derived from "Prediction of Tropospheric Radio Transmission Over Irregular Terrain, a Computer Based Method. A.G. Longley & P.L. Rice

Microwave: Received Carrier Levels, Fade Margins Calculation & Path Reliability Calculations
