Background Information from Caryn Pederson

As I completed the very last requirement for a degree in missions, the Lord

redirected my steps. As I was interviewing a retiring missionary and

writing a brief biography of his life, I realized, "This is what I want to

do." When I mentioned it to my advisor of the project, he said, "The

stories of national believers aren't being recorded." He went on to explain

that the west did a good job of recording their stories, but countless

others are being lost.

Over the next few years as I served in other ministry opportunities (and had

the opportunity to be a part of Concord Covenant Church), this challenge

seemed to ring in the back of my head. "The stories of nationals aren't

being written." During this time, I also began to realize that God commands

us to be story-tellers.

In Deuteronomy 6, the Israelites were given their greatest command--to love

the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, and mind. Shortly after

that, they're reminded to talk about these things with their children as

they go about the ordinary events of life.

Judges 2:10 shows us, though, that just a generation later, the people had

forgotten all about slavery and Who delivered them from it. This led to

idol worship, even though God had warned his people about it back in

Deuteronomy 6:10-11.

They failed because they forgot. I want to help my generation keep from

doing the same. I want to be able to retell the stories of how God is

working to build His church among every people, tribe, and nation.

Most of the world's evangelical Christian population in the world today is

either African or Asian. Yet many of these stories are being lost on a

daily basis. As I serve in the communications department at PIONEERS, I

work to see that the stories of what God is doing among the unreached are

dispersed so that people can pray, give, or even go to serve among the

unreached. But over and above that, I am writing so that we will

remember--remember the power and faithfulness of the God we serve.
