Glossary of Miniature Painting Terminology
Drybrushing:
The process of dipping a dry brush in paint, then brushing off as much paint as possible on a cloth before applying the paint to the miniature. The result is a "brushing" of the drybrushed color.

Flash:
Small bits of metal stuck to the miniature from where the two halves of the mold pressed together. Click
here for an extreme photographic example.

Prime:
To paint over or spray with primer before actually painting. The paint won't stick to the pewter figurine as well as it will stick to the primer.

Wash:
The process of painting a surface in one color, then brushing it over with another, watered down color. The watered down paint settles in the detailed crevices and lends a kind of "shadowy" depth and texture to the minis.
